Ranchi, March 4 (NationPress) In a significant achievement for security personnel in Jharkhand, police and paramilitary forces in West Singhbhum have uncovered a stockpile of arms and ammunition during an anti-Maoist initiative in the wooded area of the district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
A Maoist camp was also dismantled during this operation.
Officials reported that two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing 10 kg and intended to target security forces, were safely defused.
Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar stated that the operation was executed in the Husipi forest, which falls under the Tonto police station jurisdiction. Recovered items include a country-made pistol, two carbines, a rifle, a 10 kg IED, 58 detonators, and various other materials believed to have been amassed for assaults against security forces.
Prominent leaders of the CPI-Maoist faction -- Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahto, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin -- are reportedly active in the Saranda and Kolhan regions along with their followers. Security forces have intensified their crackdown against these individuals.
This operation marks the latest success in a series of effective actions in Jharkhand. On February 24, security forces dismantled a Maoist camp in the Tonto police station area, recovering 10 firearms, including a US-made M-16 rifle and over 500 rounds of ammunition.
In a separate operation on March 1, police in Chatra district apprehended Aakraman Ganjhu, who is also known by several aliases -- Brahmadev, Awadh, and Ram Vinayak -- the second-in-command of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), along with three accomplices.
This raid led to the capture of three 9mm pistols, a US-made M-16 AI rifle, an SLR rifle, two .315 bore rifles, three 7.62mm country-made pistols, and additional firearms. Over 5,000 bullets, multiple magazines, seven mobile devices, a vehicle, and other materials were also seized.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah previously stated that the anti-Maoist operations across the nation are nearing completion, projecting that Maoism will be entirely eliminated by the end of March 2026.
