Among those apprehended are Ganjhu’s spouse Neelam Devi, former Lawalong block head Sachin Kumar Ganjhu, and Amrit Ganjhu.

Chatra Superintendent of Police Vikas Pandey disclosed the operation's details during a press briefing on Sunday.

Ravindra Ganjhu, known by various aliases — Brahmadev, Awadh, and Ram Vinayak — served as the second-in-command of the outlawed Maoist group, the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC). He was instrumental in numerous violent events across the Chatra, Palamu, and Latehar districts.

The Jharkhand Police had issued a Rs 15 lakh reward for his capture, whereas the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had placed a Rs 3 lakh bounty on him.

The police seized an M-16 A1 rifle (US-made), an SLR rifle, three 9 mm pistols, two locally-manufactured .315 bore rifles, three homemade 7.62 mm pistols, a locally-made pistol of 1000 mm, over 5,000 rounds of ammunition, multiple magazines, seven mobile phones, a vehicle, and additional items from the Maoists.

According to SP Vikas Pandey, police obtained intelligence on March 1 indicating that Ravindra Ganjhu alias Aakraman alias Awadh and his accomplices were heading towards Palamu via Hunterganj in Chatra.

Acting promptly, a police team stopped their white vehicle near the Patsugia bridge on the Sherghati-Hunterganj road, resulting in their arrest.

The operation was directed by Sadar SDPO Sandeep Suman, along with Hunterganj Inspector Pappu Kumar Sharma, Sadar police station in-charge Vipin Kumar, Simaria SHO Manav Mayank, and armed personnel forming the arrest unit.

Meanwhile, Ganjhu’s relatives have alleged that the police had actually captured Aakraman Ganjhu along with his wife and two drivers on February 24 but have only disclosed this now.
