In Latehar, Jharkhand, on February 11, (NationPress), police reported the arrest of a Maoist commander who had a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head, along with two accomplices, during a targeted operation. The commander has been identified as Adesh Ganjhu, a key member of the outlawed Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC). His associates, Ujjwal Kumar and Subhash Kumar, were also apprehended.

Authorities seized illegal weapons, ammunition, and documents related to extremist endeavors from their possession.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav, the operation was initiated following a credible tip-off indicating that Ganjhu and several armed members were hiding in the Pakrua forest near Banwar village under the jurisdiction of Bariatu police station. They were reportedly plotting a significant criminal act in the area.

The SP assembled a specialized raiding team which executed a meticulously planned search and cordon operation in the forest.

During the operation, officials successfully captured three suspects. However, some other members managed to flee into the night and the dense forest.

In a press conference, SP Gaurav noted that Ganjhu had been active in TSPC for several years and was implicated in numerous incidents across Latehar and Chatra districts. He faces a total of 21 charges including levy collection, extortion, armed assault, arson, and other activities associated with Naxalites.

Ganjhu is known to have operated under various aliases such as Prabhakar, Kaushal, Upendra, and Vikram to evade law enforcement and extort funds from contractors, merchants, and infrastructure developers. His activities were concentrated in regions like Balumath, Tandwa, Simaria, Lawalaung, Keredari, Khalari, and McCluskieganj.

Subhash Kumar is also facing charges in Chatra, while the involvement of Ujjwal Kumar is still under investigation.

Authorities stated that ongoing interrogation of the detained individuals aims to extract intelligence regarding other members of the TSPC, their hideouts, funding methods, and plans.

Point of View

I emphasize the critical nature of law enforcement's actions in combating extremism. The arrest of Adesh Ganjhu not only disrupts the TSPC's operations but also highlights the ongoing struggle against Naxalite violence in Jharkhand. Continued vigilance and community support are essential in addressing these challenges.
