Chaibasa, Jan 21 (NationPress) A significant scheme by Maoists to target security forces in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district has been successfully disrupted. Through a collaborative operation involving police and security personnel, a total of 21 pressure IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) were recovered from the Karaikela police station jurisdiction, according to officials.
Among these, 12 IEDs weighed two kg each, while the remaining nine were one kg each. Their explosion could have resulted in substantial damage.
On the orders of Chaibasa Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar, the bomb squad neutralized all of the devices. Furthermore, security teams dismantled a Maoist cache in Serengada village, where 55 gelatin sticks were also found, likely intended for explosive use.
The operation commenced following intelligence reports regarding a Maoist group located in the Podahat region. A synchronized effort involving 14 battalions from Chaibasa Police, CRPF, Cobra, and Jharkhand Jaguar was launched throughout the area. Intelligence indicated that IEDs were placed in various forest locations to target security forces, requiring utmost caution during the operation.
Previously, on January 12, six IEDs were found in the wooded and hilly terrains between Tumbahaka and Bagan Gulgulda in the Tonto police station area of West Singhbhum.
Notable leaders of the outlawed CPI Maoist organization, such as Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin, are thought to be operating with their factions in the Kolhan forest region of Jharkhand.
The Jharkhand Police, in partnership with central security forces, has ramped up operations as part of a determined initiative to eliminate Maoist presence. The central government aims to eradicate Maoism from the state by March 2026.
Earlier this month, a tragic incident occurred when a seven-year-old girl lost her life due to a bomb explosion on January 7 within the Radhabeda forest in the West Singhbhum district of Chaibasa. Authorities reported that the IED had been planted by Maoists.
