Joint Operation by Army and Manipur Police Seizes Five IEDs Weighing 21.5 kg

Imphal, Dec 17 (NationPress) In a noteworthy event, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, conducted a joint operation that resulted in the recovery of five IEDs, which collectively weighed 21.5 kg, at several locations within the Imphal East district on Tuesday, as confirmed by officials.
A defense spokesperson mentioned that following specific intelligence regarding the existence of explosives at Maphitel Ridge in Imphal East district, both the Indian Army and Manipur Police initiated a search operation, recovering five IEDs weighing between 3.5 kg and 5.5 kg.
Alongside the IEDs, a 25-meter cordtex was also found. The effective use of an explosive detection dog and the Bomb Disposal Squad from the Army was crucial in identifying and retrieving these IEDs.
This significant recovery mitigated a potential threat, safeguarding innocent lives, as stated by the spokesperson.
He highlighted that this operation signifies the collaborative effort between the forces and stands as a substantial achievement.
The Indian Army, alongside local law enforcement, continues to display unwavering commitment to countering subversive actions within Manipur, the spokesperson added.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered an SMG Carbine with one magazine, a homemade cannon (Pumpi), and various rounds of ammunition from Phaileng in the Kangpokpi district.
A Manipur police official noted that strict security measures are implemented across all vulnerable areas, ensuring that security convoys are provided in sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe movement of vehicles along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) and Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) for the transportation of essential items.
The NH-37 and NH-2 serve as the two lifelines for Manipur, facilitating the supply of essentials, food grains, medications, transport fuel, construction materials, and other vital goods from outside the state.
