Manipur: Army Reports Discovery of Weapons Including LMG and Explosives

Kolkata, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Army has announced its success in recovering weapons, including a Light Machine Gun (LMG), explosives, and various military supplies from multiple locations in Manipur during the past week. The operations were executed by the Army in partnership with the Manipur Police and other security forces, according to a senior official from the Eastern Command based in Kolkata.

"The recoveries were conducted in both the hill and valley areas across the districts of Imphal East, Tengnoupal, Yangiangpokpi, and Churachandpur. Utilizing specific intelligence, the Army and Manipur Police initiated joint search missions around Ngariyan Hill, Imphal East, on December 23, recovering an LMG, a 12 bore single barrel gun, a 9 mm pistol, two tube launchers, explosives, ammunition, and military supplies," the official stated.

"In another coordinated effort between the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on December 27 in the Tengnoupal district, a factory-made .303 Rifle, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and grenades were seized. This operation also led to the discovery and dismantling of three hideouts located on elevated positions overlooking National Highway 102.

"On December 27 and 28, intelligence indicated the movement of arms along the route to Yangiangpokpi. The Indian Army Mobile established a checkpoint on the road from Lamlong to Yangiangpokpi. Vehicles were halted, and a comprehensive search resulted in the recovery of two double-barrel rifles and one single-bore rifle from two vehicles. These weapons have been turned over to the Manipur Police," he added.

On December 27, a collaborative operation by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the vicinity of K. Lhanghnom Vangkho village in the Churachandpur district led to the identification of a post-like structure under construction on National Highway 2, which was presumably intended for use by criminals. This structure was demolished, as stated by an official, who also mentioned that extensive patrols followed to secure the area and prevent potential criminal activities.

"The effective retrieval of these military supplies and the ongoing joint patrols illustrate the strong collaboration between the Indian Army and law enforcement agencies, showcasing their dedication to maintaining the security and safety of the region," the official concluded.
