Significant Recovery of Arms and Ammunition by Army and Security Forces in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 9 (NationPress) In a remarkable series of joint operations, the Army and the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with other security forces, successfully retrieved a significant amount of weapons, ammunition, and additional military supplies from three districts in Manipur, officials disclosed on Monday.

A defence spokesperson indicated that the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and central forces conducted these operations over the past three days, recovering a cache of arms, ammunition, and various military supplies from both hilly and valley regions across three districts—Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Thoubal.

The seized arms comprise a sniper rifle, a Lathode gun, two 9 mm pistols, an SBBL gun, two 7.62 mm SLR rifles, one carbine machine gun, one double-barreled rifle, a .12 bore single-barrel gun, and three additional 9 mm pistols.

Numerous live grenades were also confiscated in these operations, the spokesperson stated, adding that the recovered arms and ammunition were turned over to the Manipur Police for further handling.

These successful recoveries underscore the excellent cooperation among the Army, Assam Rifles, and other law enforcement agencies, showcasing their dedication to maintaining the security and safety of the region, the spokesperson noted.

At the same time, around 2,000 personnel from the Army and Assam Rifles are actively engaged in a search operation to find a 56-year-old Meitei man, Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, who has been unaccounted for since November 25.

As part of the search efforts, the Army has deployed tracker dogs, drones, and other advanced equipment. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Meira Paibis (women vigilantes in Manipur) have appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for assistance in locating Kamalbabu Singh. Both groups have continued their separate protests against the abduction of Kamalbabu Singh. Singh, a resident of Gossaipur in Cachar district, Assam, who was residing in Loitang Khunou village in Imphal West district, left his home on November 25 to head to the Leimakhong military station, where he was employed as a supervisor for a contractor associated with the Military Engineering Services (MES), but has not been seen since. Various organizations within the Meitei community have claimed that Singh was abducted by Kuki militants.
