Major Recovery of Weapons and Ammunition in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Assam Rifles successfully conducted two operations in the Chandel district of Manipur, uncovering a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, which includes rifles from China and the US, as reported by officials on Monday.
A spokesperson for the Defence department stated that during two distinct operations at Thingphai, TS Laijang, and Changpol Khengjoi villages in Chandel district over the last 24 hours, the troops were able to recover this significant cache.
The armed forces also discovered a hidden hideout utilized by armed groups in TS Laijang village.
The seized arms and ammunition comprised a US-made M16 rifle, one Type 81 Chinese Assault Rifle with three magazines, an AK-56 Rifle, an M16 rifle magazine, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two high-powered assault rifles, Motorola communication sets with chargers, 5.56 mm ammunition rounds, locally crafted Lathod guns, and Pompi and Lathod bombs.
Additionally, the Assam Rifles apprehended two suspects from the Khengjoi sub-division.
Both operations highlight the proactive measures taken by the Assam Rifles to maintain safety and security in the region, the spokesperson added.
The confiscated weapons, explosives, and detainees have been transferred to local police stations for further inquiry and appropriate legal proceedings, he mentioned.
Another defence spokesperson noted that in a series of effective joint operations in recent days, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police and other Central forces, retrieved nine weapons, ammunition, and various military supplies from both the hill and valley regions encompassing Imphal East, Tengnoupal, Yangiangpokpi, and Churachandpur districts.
The recovered items included a light machine gun, a 12 bore single barrel gun, a pistol, two tube launchers, a factory-made .303 Rifle, IEDs, grenades, explosives, ammunition, and other military supplies, along with two double barrel and one single bore rifle found in two vehicles.
This operation also facilitated the identification and dismantling of three hideouts in Churachandpur district, located on elevations overlooking the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2).
The hideouts are believed to be associated with armed groups.
The area is currently under rigorous patrol, and the structures have been destroyed to prevent potential attacks by armed assailants.
