Pabitra Margherita Critiques Congress' Politics in Assam
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 1 (NationPress) Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, emphasized on Sunday that the Congress party has never lost its political relevance in Assam and will continue to be a crucial player among minority groups in the state, while also critiquing the opposition's strategies.
According to MoS Margherita, despite numerous electoral defeats, Congress persistently attempts to position itself as a champion of minority rights, especially within the Muslim community.
"The Congress has always maintained a presence in Assam's political arena. Among minorities, particularly the Miyas, the party seeks to present itself as the 'Dhruva Tara' (Pole Star), portraying itself as their exclusive protector," he stated.
However, he accused Congress of engaging in divisive politics aimed at securing votes rather than fostering real development and social unity.
"For many years, Congress leaders have exploited minorities as a vote bank, making empty promises while keeping these communities economically and politically marginalized," MoS Margherita asserted.
He further noted that the people of Assam have become politically astute, able to discern what he termed as the "politics of appeasement" by Congress.
As per MoS Margherita, the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has prioritized development, ensuring that welfare initiatives benefit all segments of society without bias.
The Minister also accused Congress of attempting to rejuvenate its waning political influence through provocative remarks and unnecessary political narratives.
"As elections approach, Congress suddenly becomes vocal, trying to stay relevant with emotional and misleading assertions," he remarked.
Highlighting the achievements of the BJP administration in Assam, he mentioned that the government has focused on law and order, infrastructure development, and welfare programs for indigenous populations, which has garnered significant public support.
He expressed confidence that the people of Assam would once again dismiss what he called the Congress's "outdated politics" and reaffirm their faith in the BJP during the upcoming elections.
"The future of Assam rests on development, stability, and inclusive growth, not on divisive politics," MoS Margherita concluded.
