Kolkata, Sep 25 (NationPress) Recent investigations have revealed that there have been numerous admissions exceeding the authorized vacant seats at South Kolkata Calcutta Law College (New Campus) located in Kasba, where a student was sexually assaulted in June. This information stems from the preliminary findings of the Calcutta University probe committee, which oversees the college.
According to initial reports, clues have emerged suggesting that Monojit Mishra, the primary suspect in the rape incident, may have been involved in these unauthorized admissions.
The probe committee members have gathered comprehensive records of all first-year admissions from the past 12 years. They are currently scrutinizing these documents to identify which admissions occurred without authorization and exceeded the approved vacant seats.
“The committee has pinpointed certain admissions where the admission forms lacked the necessary signatures from admission observers. Without these signatures, candidates' admissions are technically invalid. Nevertheless, these students have been accepted and are now listed as regular attendees at the college,” disclosed a Calcutta University insider familiar with the ongoing investigation.
Furthermore, the committee has interviewed several staff members at Kasba Law College regarding the admissions process over the years, during which Monojit Mishra’s name was mentioned.
“Numerous staff involved in admissions indicated that Mishra annually recommended several candidates for acceptance beyond the available seats, and in most instances, these candidates were indeed admitted. The committee is now exploring potential financial motivations behind these admissions,” added the insider.
Mishra, a former student of the college, wielded considerable influence, even securing a contract with the college management, which overlooked his prior criminal history.
