Mizoram Chief Minister Unveils Rubber Initiative to Support 1,000 Farmers Annually

Aizawl, Dec 16 (NationPress) In a pivotal move to revitalize the agricultural sector in Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday inaugurated the "Chief Minister's Rubber Mission", aimed at aiding 1,000 farmers each year.
According to a senior official, the "Chief Minister's Rubber Mission" is set to launch in the 2025-26 financial year and is designed to cultivate 1,000 hectares of land annually, directly benefiting 1,000 farmers each year.
The mission's inaugural phase will cover a span of four years, focusing on developing 4,000 hectares of land, he noted.
Speaking at the event held at the Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall in Aizawl, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of rubber as a crop with high global demand that provides sustainable income opportunities while aiding in environmental conservation.
Lalduhoma recognized the challenges faced by Mizoram's farmers with various crops and plantation schemes, which often resulted in setbacks and diminished trust in government programs.
He reassured the public that the mission is strategically designed to utilize Mizoram's arable land efficiently, aiming to turn the state into a rubber production hub.
Prior to the mission's launch, state officials undertook a comprehensive study by visiting Tripura, Kerala, and the Rubber Board of India to gather essential insights and expertise to guarantee the program's successful rollout.
Minister for Land Resources Lalthansanga praised the Chief Minister’s vision and disclosed that the initiative was developed following extensive discussions with Rubber Board of India Chairman, Sawar Dhanania.
He stressed that the nodal department is fully equipped to implement the mission effectively and provide meaningful benefits to farmers.
In a key moment during the ceremony, NABARD's General Manager Pankaja Borah presented a sanction letter of Rs 27.98 crore for the initial phase of the mission, which will encompass seven out of the eleven districts in the state.
The Mizoram Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission illustrates the state government's commitment to economic empowerment and environmental sustainability for farmers, heralding a new era in Mizoram's agricultural development, as noted by officials.
Minister for Land Resources, Soil & Water Conservation Lalthansanga also participated in the event.
