Aizawl, Aug 20 (NationPress) The government of Mizoram has made a significant decision to extend the Chief Minister's Rubber Mission – 2nd Phase to encompass more land, according to officials.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) revealed that Chief Minister Lalduhoma convened a meeting with representatives from the Mizoram Rubber Society (MIRSO) and approved a proposal to expand the mission by an additional 173 hectares.
This extension of rubber cultivation is anticipated to significantly enhance the livelihood of natural rubber cultivators, the official stated.
MIRSO President Hrangzuala presented a report outlining the proposed initiatives for villages in the Mamit District as directed by the government.
Rubber growers have expressed their gratitude for the Mission and shown a strong interest in increased involvement, the official noted.
As part of the Mizoram government’s flagship initiative – ‘Bana Kaih’ (Hand Holding Scheme), the original target for the 2nd Phase was 800 hectares, which has now been elevated by an additional 400 hectares.
The MIRSO has requested an extra 173 hectares, bringing the overall additional target to 573 hectares, according to the CMO official.
The Chief Minister conveyed his appreciation to the farmers for their collaboration and reaffirmed the government’s firm commitment to the program.
Lalduhoma confirmed the sanctioning of the extra land and instructed senior officials to take the necessary actions. He also announced plans for the establishment of 100 rubber processing units with subsidy support to enhance production.
Within the 2nd Phase of the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission, a total of 2,400 hectares has been designated for rubber plantation. Of that area, over 1,200 hectares will receive funding support from NABARD, while the remaining land will fall under the ‘Bana Kaih’ scheme. With the recent approval, the Hand Holding Scheme will now cover 1,373 hectares in the 2nd phase.
