Aizawl, June 4 (NationPress) The government of Mizoram is in the process of formulating a comprehensive master plan to create a ‘Thenzawl Peace City’ in the Serchhip district, aimed at reducing congestion in the capital city of Aizawl, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
During a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed the details of the Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan.
He emphasized that Thenzawl is endowed with plentiful clean water, particularly in the central area of the town.
The envisioned master plan proposes a city surrounded by picturesque hills, featuring clear rivers, beautiful lakes, and breathtaking natural vistas.
According to Lalduhoma, the objective is to transform Thenzawl Peace City into a meticulously planned hill city that is attractive, tranquil, and suitable for permanent habitation. Presently, Thenzawl has an approximate population of ten thousand.
“The proposed plan spans about 108 sq. km, with roughly 82 sq. km set aside as the core urban area. With a target population density of 100 individuals per hectare, the city is projected to accommodate up to one million residents. The design allows for future expansion and adaptation,” the Chief Minister remarked during the meeting.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed to specifically manage the development of the Peace City, according to a CMO official.
The preparation of the Master Plan has received financial backing from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which has allocated Rs 10 crore to the Mizoram government, with Rs 1 crore (10 percent) already disbursed.
The Thenzawl Peace City project is a forward-thinking initiative by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, aimed at alleviating the pressures on Aizawl while promoting a more balanced and sustainable urban future for Mizoram.
Previously, the Chief Minister had presented the concept to the central government. The meeting included notable figures such as Home and Urban Development Minister K. Sapdanga, Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, and other senior officials.
