Do Mizos Hold the Key to Central Posts? Governor Encourages Students!

Aizawl, Aug 11 (NationPress) Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) stated on Monday that Mizos previously held significant roles within central services, urging students to concentrate on this path while advocating for increased efforts to ensure that more Mizos pursue careers in central government administration.

During his visit to the Serchhip district on Monday, the Governor conducted multiple meetings with heads of government departments, representatives from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), church leaders, and ex-servicemen.

He also toured the 14 battalion Assam Rifles headquarters, Shalom Special School, and Sainik School in Chhingchhip.

Recognizing that Serchhip district has one of the highest literacy rates in India (approximately 98 percent), the Governor encouraged officials to leverage this advantage to enhance students' capabilities and prepare them for competitive settings.

He highlighted the necessity of effectively executing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and noted that the central government is allocating significant resources to improve education.

General Singh (Retd) urged the community to make the most of educational institutions established with central government assistance, including Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

In his address to government department heads, he praised various commendable initiatives in the district and expressed his hopes for further progress and development.

The Governor emphasized the importance of understanding and implementing various beneficial schemes introduced by the central government for public welfare, particularly those designed for tribal communities, to ensure deserving beneficiaries receive the intended support.

He pointed out the need to promote food processing and organic farming among farmers as a priority for future sustainability, urging department heads to provide prompt assistance to farmers.

Addressing the issue of drug abuse, he called for a collective community effort to combat it effectively and stressed the importance of mobilizing all available resources to safeguard the youth, the future pillars of the nation, from the dangers of drugs.

In his overview of Serchhip District's profile, administrative structure, and key government initiatives, Deputy Commissioner Paul L. Khuma introduced the Vantlang Viltu Application, which allows citizens to file complaints to authorities in a straightforward manner.

He added that MLA Local Area Development Funds have been digitized for easy access to details regarding completed works, received funds, and current quantities, and noted that the Jal Jeevan Mission has achieved 100 percent completion.

He reported that the repair and widening of National Highway-54 (NH-54) is now complete.

Under the 'Bana Kaih (handholding)' policy, 8,845.28 quintals of ginger have been procured, with over Rs 4.20 crore already transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts.

Serchhip district Superintendent of Police Gavit Gogna reported that from January to July this year, burglary cases accounted for 41 percent of recorded crimes, with theft at 22 percent and other cases at 37 percent.

He reported four heroin seizures totaling 127.29 grams, valued at Rs 3.80 lakh. The district currently hosts 647 refugees from Myanmar and 266 refugees from Bangladesh, with biometric enrollment completed for 132 Myanmar refugees.

The Governor also met with representatives of NGOs, church leaders, and ex-servicemen, and in the afternoon, he visited Sainik School in Chhingchhip.

Expressing his satisfaction with Mizoram's outstanding Sainik School, the Governor remarked that beyond academics, the institution provides numerous essential life skills, which will greatly benefit the holistic development of the students.
