Paradip (Odisha), Nov 28 (NationPress) – In a remarkable achievement, Paradip Port in Odisha has set a new record by reaching 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) in cargo throughput within a fiscal year as of November 27, according to an official announcement made on Friday.
This milestone marks the ninth consecutive year that the port has exceeded the 100 MMT threshold, recording 100.15 MMT, which reflects an impressive 4.78% year-on-year growth, and was accomplished 12 days earlier than in the previous fiscal year.
During the last fiscal year, the significant 100 MMT milestone was attained on December 9, 2024. The record this year was achieved in 241 days, compared to 253 days the previous year.
Despite facing market obstacles, Paradip Port continues to establish new standards. Enhanced operational speed, system enhancements, and unwavering support from stakeholders have been pivotal in keeping the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) at the forefront.
Growth in coastal thermal coal, container cargo, gypsum & flux, POL, and steel cargo has bolstered PPA's status as a premier coastal shipping center. Coal cargo alone accounts for approximately 45% of total cargo volume at the port, with a 3.76% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. Moreover, containerized cargo volume has surged by 32%, gypsum & flux by 24%, steel cargo by 35%, and petroleum oil and lubricants (POL) by 31% year-on-year in the current fiscal period.
P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), expressed that with a dedicated focus on efficiency and growth, the port is well-positioned to achieve an all-time high this fiscal year.
He extended his congratulations to all port staff, user industries, stevedores, steamer agents, trade unions, and public-private partnership operators for their role in this extraordinary achievement.
The PPA Chairman also acknowledged the ongoing support from government entities such as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, the Odisha government, Indian Railways, Customs, and other departments.
Key officials from the port, including Deputy Chairman T. Venu Gopal, Advisor, Traffic A.K. Bose, and Traffic Manager G. Edison, were also present during this momentous occasion.
