Mumbai, Aug 6 (NationPress) In an effort to combat unauthorised constructions and maintain the integrity of urban planning, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reinforced its enforcement protocols in regions where it serves as the Special Planning Authority (SPA).
With a zero tolerance stance against unauthorised constructions, officials have been assigned to monitor critical areas.
“To ensure lawful urban development, officials have been designated under Section 53 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, granting them the authority to take timely and lawful actions against unauthorised developments,” stated MMRDA, which is also engaged in executing various transport infrastructure projects.
MMRDA’s jurisdiction includes Ambarnath, Kulgaon-Badlapur and the Surrounding Notified Area (AKBSNA), Bhiwandi Surrounding Notified Area (BSNA), Kalyan Growth Centre, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj) International Airport Notified Area (CSMIANA), Oshiware District Centre (ODC), Wadala Notified Area, and both Extended MMR Areas in Palghar and Alibaug.
According to directives from the Maharashtra government, development permissions in the extended areas of Palghar and Alibaug will continue to be issued by the respective District Collectors until their Development Plans are finalised.
Consequently, enforcement in these regions will also fall under the purview of the respective collectors, as mentioned in the release.
For all other SPA zones, MMRDA has appointed officials to identify unauthorised constructions, initiate legal actions under Sections 52 to 56 of the MRTP Act, and adhere to a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for transparent and lawful enforcement.
Additionally, MMRDA has established the SOP, which includes issuing fair notices, following due process, ensuring appealable orders, and acting in accordance with judicial directives while enforcing strict and timely measures.
“Officials are instructed to act swiftly and decisively within legal boundaries and maintain full transparency. Each case will be processed in a timely fashion with appropriate documentation and hearings,” the release stated.
