Puttaparthi (Andhra Pradesh), Nov 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Sri Sathya Sai Baba's life represented a true manifestation of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, and his teachings continue to motivate and uplift individuals in their everyday lives.
While addressing the celebrations marking the birth centenary of Sathya Sai Baba on Wednesday, he remarked that countless lives across more than 140 nations are advancing with newfound enlightenment, direction, and determination.
“Sri Sathya Sai Baba's existence was a living representation of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Consequently, this centenary year has evolved into a magnificent celebration of universal affection, tranquility, and service for us,” the Prime Minister articulated.
He pointed out that the influence of Sathya Sai Baba’s philosophies can be witnessed among people universally. “Manav Seva is Madhav Seva. This stands as the pinnacle ideal for Baba’s followers. He consistently emphasized: Help ever, hurt never. Less talk, more work. Many of his teachings continue to guide and inspire us daily,” he remarked.
PM Modi expressed that it is a privilege for his administration to unveil a commemorative coin and a postal stamp on this auspicious occasion. These items symbolize and mirror the spirit of service that Sri Sathya Sai Baba embodied through his life and work. He extended his congratulations and warm wishes to all devotees, fellow volunteers, and Baba’s followers around the globe.
“All our varied spiritual and philosophical traditions ultimately converge on this singular ideal. Whether one follows the path of devotion, knowledge, or action, each is profoundly linked to seva. What is bhakti without serving the Divine present in every being? What is gyan if it does not evoke empathy for others? What is karma if it is not executed in the spirit of contributing one's efforts to society?” he stated.
“Seva Parmo Dharmah is the principle that has upheld India through centuries of transformations and adversities. It has endowed our civilization with its inner strength. Numerous esteemed saints and reformers have perpetuated this timeless message. Sri Sathya Sai Baba positioned seva at the core of human existence. He often expressed love for all, serve all...”
PM Modi described his involvement in the celebrations at the sacred site as both an emotional and spiritual experience. “This birth centenary year of Shri Sathya Sai Baba is not merely a festivity for our era; it is a divine benediction. Although he is no longer physically present amongst us, his teachings, love, and spirit of service continue to guide millions globally,” stated the PM, who previously paid homage at Sathya Sai Baba's Samadhi.
He recounted how a single encounter with Baba transformed many lives. “In merely one meeting, if someone's life can be altered, it signifies the greatness of that individual. Many present today have experienced life changes due to the words of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I am pleased that, inspired by Baba, the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust and its associated organizations are carrying forth this sacred mission of 'Seva',” he noted.
He acknowledged that millions of Baba’s followers are dedicated to this mission selflessly. “Serving humanity is equivalent to serving the Divine, and this represents the highest ideal cherished by Baba’s devotees. He imparted numerous teachings rich with compassion, duty, discipline, and a comprehensive life philosophy. He frequently stated, ‘Help Ever, Hurt Never’. Even today, these guiding principles of Shri Sathya Sai Baba resonate in all our hearts. Sai Baba utilized spirituality as a means for social betterment and public welfare. He interlinked it with selfless service, character development, and value-based education. He never channeled his energy into promoting a singular doctrine or sect. Instead, he devoted himself to aiding the impoverished and tirelessly working to alleviate their suffering.”
PM Modi reminisced that following the Gujarat earthquake, Baba’s Seva Dal and the entire volunteer community were among the first to offer assistance to the victims. “His followers served with unwavering dedication for numerous days. They played an essential role in delivering relief supplies to the affected families while providing vital support—material, emotional, and social.”
He expressed satisfaction that, inspired by Baba, the Sai Central Trust and its affiliated institutions are promoting the mission of service in a structured, organized, and enduring way. “Today, it stands as a practical and successful model. Your outstanding efforts in sectors such as clean water, housing, healthcare, nutrition, disaster relief, and renewable energy are indeed commendable.”
“I paid tribute to Sri Sathya Sai Baba at the Sai Kulwant Hall, Prasanthi Nilayam, and proceeded to Omkar Hall for Darshan. Being in these sacred environments serves as a reminder of his infinite compassion and lifelong dedication to uplifting humanity. His message of selfless service continues to inspire and guide millions,” the Prime Minister shared on ‘X’.
Additionally, the Prime Minister noted that among the various noble initiatives they are undertaking, the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust has placed significant emphasis on animal welfare. “Today, I participated in the Gaudan Ceremony, where farmers are receiving cows. The cows depicted in the images below are Gir Cows! Let us all continue our efforts for the welfare of our society, as exemplified by Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
