Ahmedabad, Nov 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on Saturday to evaluate the progress of one of India's most ambitious infrastructure projects - the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR).
At approximately 10 a.m., the Prime Minister will tour the Bullet Train Station currently under construction in Surat, a pivotal point on the 508-km route that promises to propel India into the realm of high-speed rail.
The corridor, spanning across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, will connect major urban areas including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai.
Out of the total distance, 352 km is situated in Gujarat and the Union Territory, while 156 km is in Maharashtra.
Designed to adhere to international standards, nearly 85% of the corridor - approximately 465 km - is being constructed on elevated viaducts to guarantee safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to the land.
Project officials have reported significant advancements, with 326 km of viaduct completed and 17 out of 25 river bridges finished.
Upon completion, the Bullet Train will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about two hours, fundamentally transforming business, tourism, and regional connectivity.
Authorities have stated that this project will serve as an economic engine, driving investment and development along its entire length.
The Surat–Bilimora segment, covering around 47 km, is among the most prepared, with civil structures and track-bed installations fully completed.
The Surat station is designed to reflect the city's renowned diamond industry, fusing modern design with functional, commuter-friendly facilities.
The station will include spacious lounges, essential amenities like restrooms and retail areas, and will seamlessly connect with the Surat Metro, city bus services, and Indian Railways.
Surat's railway infrastructure has rapidly progressed into one of Western India's most advanced and strategically significant transit centers, propelled by a combination of expansion, modernization, and multimodal integration.
The city is also undergoing extensive upgrades through the redevelopment of Surat Railway Station under the Railway Station Redevelopment Programme, which includes enhanced passenger amenities, improved circulation, and upgraded connectivity.
