Jason Momoa Evacuates Oahu's North Shore Amid Catastrophic Flooding
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 23 (NationPress) - Hollywood actor Jason Momoa had to evacuate the location where his family was residing on Oahu after a severe storm struck Hawaii, resulting in the most significant flooding the island has experienced in two decades.
The star of “Aquaman” shared on Instagram that he and his family departed from Oahu’s North Shore after losing power, and floodwaters led to widespread evacuations near the Wahiawa Dam, which was at risk of collapsing.
“We’re safe for now, but there are many who aren’t, so we’re sending all our love,” Momoa expressed in a video on his Instagram stories, as reported by variety.com.
He further mentioned, “The situation on the North Shore is intense.”
Momoa also indicated that the hazardous weather conditions forced him to cancel a planned music event for the weekend and shared clips of the flooding near his father’s home, describing the devastation as ‘unbelievable’ and urging his followers to remain safe.
Born in Honolulu, the actor later conveyed on Instagram that the past weeks have been particularly difficult for his home state.
“The storms, the flooding, and the relentless rain across Oahu have impacted so many of our people, especially those already in need,” Momoa stated.
He added, “Witnessing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors suffering the most,” before urging the community to look out for one another.
“That’s what aloha means. It’s about supporting each other when it matters the most,” he wrote.
This storm is the latest challenge for the islands, which often contend with the aftermath of natural disasters like the 2023 Lahaina wildfires, whose victims Momoa has encouraged his followers to help fundraise for. This disaster was deemed the worst in Hawaii’s history and the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century.
Regarding the actor's career, he made his acting debut as Jason Ioane in the action drama series Baywatch: Hawaii, followed by roles as Ronon Dex in the sci-fi series Stargate Atlantis and Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones.
He later starred in lead roles in the historical drama series Frontier, as well as the shows See and Chief of War.
Since 2016, Momoa has been featured in various DC Comics media, initially portraying Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. He has also played Duncan Idaho in the sci-fi film Dune and in the fantasy adventure comedy A Minecraft Movie.
Momoa is set to appear next in Street Fighter, the fourth live-action feature adaptation of the popular video game franchise, directed by Kitao Sakurai.
The cast also features Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Vidyut Jammwal, Eric André, and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
