Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Neemuch, Feb 5 (NationPress) In a tribute to the bravery of Kanchan Bai Meghwal, an Anganwadi worker who tragically lost her life while defending nearly 20 children from a ferocious swarm of bees in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch district, the state government has pledged a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to her bereaved family.
Kanchan Bai Meghwal, a Dalit woman, worked as a cook at an Anganwadi centre located in Ranpur village.
On February 2, while she was preparing meals, a large beehive situated on a nearby tree triggered an aggressive attack on the children who were playing at the Anganwadi centre.
Amidst the chaos, Kanchan Bai Meghwal displayed extraordinary courage, swiftly gathering tarpaulin sheets, mats, and blankets to wrap and protect each child.
She intentionally placed herself in harm's way to divert the bees' attention away from the children, leading them into a safe room.
Despite her valiant efforts to fend off the bees, she eventually collapsed.
She was immediately transported to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead upon arrival or soon after, due to the excessive venom.
Upon hearing about this heartbreaking incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the loss of such a courageous individual and announced financial aid of Rs 4 lakh for her family.
The Chief Minister also declared that all the children who were saved by Kanchan Bai Meghwal would receive free education.
"The untimely demise of Kanchan Bai Meghwal, a dedicated worker at the Anganwadi centre in Ranpur village, due to bee stings is profoundly tragic. The state government is with her family during this difficult period. On humanitarian grounds, I have ordered the provision of Rs 4 lakh to her family and assured that the state will cover the education costs for her children," Chief Minister Yadav announced on X.
Local villagers reported that Kanchan Bai Meghwal’s husband, Shivalal, is paralyzed, leaving her to manage the family's financial responsibilities and care for their son and two daughters.
