Indore, Jan 24 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Congress president, Jitu Patwari, expressed grave concern on Saturday regarding the alarming instances of water contamination affecting the residents in the Bhagirathpura area of Indore and more recently in Mhow. These incidents have instilled a pervasive sense of fear among the populace concerning the safety of the water supplied by municipal authorities.
Patwari indicated that the issue of water contamination extends beyond just Indore and Mhow, with similar reports emerging from various urban locales across Madhya Pradesh. He alleged that many locals have ceased to use water provided by civic bodies due to concerns over its safety.
“This matter requires urgent attention from the state government. It is quite ironic that the BJP has governed Madhya Pradesh for two decades yet has failed to ensure safe drinking water for its citizens,” Patwari remarked, referring to the Mhow incident that left more than two dozen individuals ill.
He further declared that the Congress party plans to initiate a significant protest and awareness campaign throughout the state addressing the critical issue of contaminated water.
“The severity of water contamination escalates daily. To date, 27 individuals have lost their lives in Bhagirathpura, and now 25 residents have fallen ill in Mhow. This situation necessitates a large-scale protest and public outreach, and the Congress is gearing up for it,” Patwari stated.
On Saturday evening, a group of locals demonstrated by placing the body of a deceased individual on the road, alleging that the death was caused by consuming contaminated water.
The Congress shared footage of the protest on its social media channels, claiming that the deceased's family could not afford the funeral expenses and that neither the administration nor the government provided assistance or accountability.
In the meantime, several suspected cases of stomach infections were reported from the Patti Bazaar area of Mhow on Friday, leading authorities to dispatch multiple medical survey teams for treatment and evaluation of the situation.
