Indore, Jan 14 (NationPress) Jitu Patwari, the President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, announced on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, is receiving daily briefings on the water contamination crisis in Indore’s Bhagirathpura neighborhood. He is expected to visit the families affected by this tragedy soon.
“Each day, Rahul Gandhi is closely monitoring the situation in Bhagirathpura and plans to meet the families impacted by this issue shortly. The Congress party remains committed to advocating for the residents of Madhya Pradesh.
“I urge the citizens of Indore to continue voicing their concerns until the government takes decisive action against those responsible,” Patwari expressed during a press interaction.
While visiting the Bhagirathpura area, where contaminated water supplied by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has led to the deaths of over a dozen individuals, with many others still hospitalized, Patwari stated that he anticipates significant actions from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during his visit to Indore on Wednesday.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had conveyed his condolences regarding the tragedy in Bhagirathpura, attributing the blame for the fatalities to the ruling BJP government.
The Congress party's state unit, under Jitu Patwari's leadership, has launched a fierce critique of the Madhya Pradesh government, demanding accountability from the officials and local representatives involved.
Interestingly, a medical experts' panel assigned to compile an audit report concerning the deaths in Bhagirathpura submitted its findings to the district administration on Tuesday.
This audit report has connected at least 15 fatalities in Bhagirathpura to a recent surge of vomiting and diarrhea, according to a senior official who spoke with IANS on Wednesday.
The findings from the medical experts' report are expected to be presented to the High Court on Thursday. Notably, during the last hearing on January 7, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had instructed the state government to provide a new status report by January 15.
Currently, the state administration and the IMC are conducting routine health examinations for residents in the Bhagirathpura area. Over the past three days, numerous medical teams have screened more than 16,000 individuals, as per the district administration's report.
