Indore, Jan 14 (NationPress) Rahul Gandhi, the Congress MP and currently serving as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, is set to visit Indore, Madhya Pradesh on January 17. His visit comes in the wake of a tragic event in the Bhagirathpura area, where approximately two dozen residents have lost their lives due to contaminated water consumption in recent weeks.
During this visit, LoP Rahul Gandhi plans to meet with the grieving families affected by this unfortunate incident, demonstrating solidarity as confirmed by the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in a statement released on Wednesday evening.
Additionally, the Madhya Pradesh Congress intends to organize a significant protest in Indore to address the oversights that led to this disaster. Key figures from the party, including PCC chief Jitu Patwari and LoP in the State Assembly Umang Singhar, are expected to participate actively in the demonstration.
“On January 17, a statewide protest will take place across Madhya Pradesh, where Congress supporters will hold sit-ins at statues of Mahatma Gandhi,” stated the MP media cell in a report to IANS on Wednesday.
Rahul Gandhi's upcoming visit is poised to intensify the political landscape in the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh. This was evident as the state BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, launched criticisms against the Congress party, accusing them of exploiting the situation for political gain.
While speaking at an event in Indore, Chief Minister Yadav expressed the government's empathy towards the residents of Bhagirathpura and stated that they have taken all necessary steps to aid those affected.
“It is regrettable that Congress chooses to use disasters for political leverage. We have approached this matter with the utmost seriousness and compassion. I encourage them to engage with a more constructive attitude. However, should they continue to politicize this tragedy, the people of Indore will remember,” said Yadav during the AMRUT 2.0 program in Indore.
Meanwhile, Kailash Vijayvargiya, the state's Urban Development Minister and local leader from Indore, criticized the Congress party for challenging Indore's reputation as the cleanest city in India.
He described the contamination episode as a significant challenge but asserted, “Challenges will arise, and we must confront them. Those protesting here in Indore should be informed of the contributions made by the BJP towards the city's development.”
