Chennai, June 7 (NationPress) Union Minister of State L. Murugan has recently criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for bringing up the issue of delimitation as a tactic to distract the public from the failures of the state government.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Murugan indicated that both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have previously assured that any forthcoming delimitation exercise will not adversely impact any state or its demographic distribution. He stated, "No one from the Centre has mentioned this topic lately, yet Stalin keeps discussing it. It is merely a political diversion."
He went on to condemn the DMK government's performance over the past four years, asserting that ordinary citizens in Tamil Nadu are suffering due to escalating property taxes, increased electricity costs, and corruption within the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). "The DMK government has neglected significant issues affecting the populace. Rather than concentrating on governance, Stalin seeks to shift blame onto the central government for all problems," the Union Minister remarked.
Furthermore, Murugan questioned the state government's commitment to conducting a caste census. He pointed to the successful caste-based surveys in Bihar and Telangana, implying that Stalin lacks the necessary political will to implement such measures in Tamil Nadu.
"If the governments in Bihar and Telangana are capable of conducting caste surveys, what is hindering the DMK? It’s evident that their interest lies only in rhetoric, not in action," he stated.
Murugan's comments arise as the BJP intensifies its efforts to broaden its presence in Tamil Nadu in anticipation of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The Centre's stance on critical issues like delimitation and caste census has become a focal point in recent discussions, with opposition leaders expressing concerns about potential repercussions for southern states. Nevertheless, the Union government has insisted that any future delimitation process will be approached with careful consideration and consensus, ensuring no state is negatively impacted.
