Chennai, April 14 (NationPress) BJP leader K. Annamalai has taken a strong stance against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's recent comments regarding the proposed delimitation process. He labeled Stalin's "warning" to the Centre as "unwarranted" and claimed it was intended to instill "fear" in the public.

Annamalai emphasized that the Modi administration is dedicated to involving all stakeholders in discussions concerning delimitation, and he dismissed Stalin's worries as an attempt to create undue alarm among the state's residents.

These statements come just before a Special Session of Parliament set to commence on April 16, where amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, and a Delimitation Bill, which seeks to ensure one-third reservation for women in Parliament, will likely be addressed.

In a video message, Stalin had warned the Centre against moving forward with delimitation in a way that could negatively affect southern states.

He asserted that Tamil Nadu would initiate a significant protest if its interests were jeopardized or if the southern states faced disproportionate repercussions. Furthermore, he raised concerns about the timing of the special session, which aligns with the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on April 23.

Stalin contended that Tamil Nadu and other southern states had adhered to population control guidelines set by the Centre and should not now suffer adverse effects as a result. He assured that the state would not remain passive if its interests were threatened.

In response, Annamalai conveyed to IANS, "It is extremely regrettable that the Chief Minister is attempting to sow discord and incite fear within the Tamil populace. If you review the video, you'll observe the kind of language he has employed, suggesting that Tamil Nadu would revert to the 1960s and threatening the Prime Minister, which is unjustified."

He further remarked that the Prime Minister has made significant efforts to unite all parties involved.

"Since 1996, the issue of women's reservation has been stalled. Numerous senior leaders within the current INDIA coalition have opposed reservations for our mothers and sisters. The Prime Minister has worked diligently since September 2023 to advance this issue and secure its passage in both Houses of Parliament by fostering collaboration," he stated.

Criticizing Stalin, Annamalai stated, "What troubles the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister? We have never suggested a population-based increase. We have consistently asserted that we will consider everyone. The Home Minister in Coimbatore a year ago indicated that the increase would be pro rata."

"Any increase we implement will be pro rata to ensure that no one is disadvantaged. It is profoundly disappointing that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, by disseminating this video, has contradicted the oath he took to uphold the Constitution of India," the BJP leader added, alluding to Stalin's video message on X.
