Amaravati, April 9 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, officially commenced the construction of his personal residence in the state capital, Amaravati, on Wednesday.

Together with his family, he conducted the Bhoomi Puja accompanied by traditional rituals performed by priests while Vedic hymns were chanted.

His wife, Nara Bhuvaneswari, their son and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, his spouse Brahmani, and their child Devansh were present at the ceremony, which took place behind the State Secretariat at Velagapudi.

Naidu secured a 5-acre residential plot in the Velagapudi area from a local farmer's family last year, and the registration process for the plot has recently been finalized.

The new residence is being constructed adjacent to E9 Road in the central region of the capital. The ground plus one structure will cover an area of 1,455 square yards.

The Chief Minister aims to finish the construction and relocate within a year. After the groundbreaking event, representatives from the construction firm presented plans for the house, which will feature modern amenities designed for future demands.

Reportedly, the plans will include a mini conference hall and quarters for staff. A significant portion of the land is planned to be transformed into a garden, with adequate parking space allocated.

Local farmers expressed their joy over the Chief Minister's decision to build his house nearby, decorating the site with flowers and rangoli. Women farmers even gifted new clothes to the couples.

He will be among the first individuals from outside the capital city to establish his residence in the core area of the state capital.

Naidu made this purchase following criticism from political rivals who pointed out that he had not constructed his own house in Amaravati, despite his ambitious vision to develop it into a world-class city.

The YSR Congress Party had previously mocked Naidu for not having a home in Amaravati, in contrast to Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who built his residence in Tadepalli, near Amaravati.

Since the administrative capital was moved from Hyderabad in 2015, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President has been residing in a rented property along Karakatta Road, close to the banks of the Krishna River.

After leading the TDP-led NDA to victory last year, Naidu renewed his commitment to develop Amaravati as the sole state capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to visit Amaravati later this month to recommence capital development initiatives.

The PM had initially laid the foundation for Amaravati in 2015 when the TDP was in power. However, after the YSRCP came into power in 2019, they proposed developing three state capitals: Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital, Kurnool as the judicial capital, and Amaravati as the legislative capital.

These plans, however, faced challenges due to legal disputes and strong opposition from farmers of Amaravati who had contributed their land for the capital city's development.

Chandrababu Naidu's decision to build his residence in the core area of Amaravati is perceived as a move to instill confidence in potential investors regarding the capital city.
