Speculation Rises as Nancy Grewal's Murder Remains Unsolved: Khalistani Extremism in Canada
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ottawa, March 10 (NationPress) The shocking murder of Nancy Grewal, a Canadian national and prominent critic of the Khalistan movement, raises serious alarm over the potential for Khalistani extremism to manifest in violent acts within Canada. This incident further complicates the already fraught relations between India and Canada regarding the matter, as reported on Tuesday.
The report from 'Khalsa Vox' reveals that the savage stabbing of 45-year-old Grewal has left both South Asian communities in Canada and the general public in disbelief. New information emerging between March 7 and 9 has intensified scrutiny on the extremist affiliations tied to Khalistani groups, yet the investigation remains stagnant with no arrests or suspects named.
“LaSalle Police, now supported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), confirmed on March 7 that the homicide on Todd Lane on March 3 was a premeditated, targeted act — not a random crime. Chief Michael Pearce previously stated that the killing was ‘an intentional act directed at her personally.’ No significant progress has been reported in identifying or capturing those responsible, with police calling for public assistance while refraining from speculating on motives or addressing social media assertions directly,” the report states.
As cited by various Canadian media, including CBC News, a social media account linked to Sikh extremists has purportedly claimed responsibility for Grewal's murder, marking a deeply troubling turn in the investigation.
“The post explicitly claimed that Grewal was murdered due to her persistent criticisms of the Khalistan separatist movement, which aspires to establish an independent Sikh state in Punjab, India. It contained a chilling warning: others who oppose Khalistan would meet a ‘similar fate.’ Although this claim has not been independently verified, it resonates disturbingly with Grewal’s documented history of receiving death threats and enduring harassment from Khalistani supporters,” the report elaborated.
Just prior to her death, Grewal expressed to CBC her fears for her safety, citing threats from those within the Sikh separatist movement.
“She recounted previous incidents, including an arson attack on her residence and online threats linked to her candid videos denouncing Khalistani beliefs. Her family, including her sister Alishaa Grewal, characterized the attack as ‘pre-planned,’ clearly indicating her activism as the motive,” it continued.
Reports indicate that Grewal was stabbed multiple times — some sources mentioning as many as 18 wounds — while she was alone at a client’s home working as a personal support worker — a vulnerable situation that extremists may have exploited.
The Khalsa Vox report further stated, “As the investigation progresses with additional resources from the OPP, the lack of arrests is igniting speculation and outrage. Supporters of Grewal are demanding prompt justice, viewing her murder as a grim warning: in Canada, vocally opposing Khalistani extremism can lead to deadly consequences.”
