New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Thursday that the National Sports Governance Bill, set to be presented in Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session, has been meticulously crafted with contributions from renowned international bodies like the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and FIFA. This process also included comprehensive discussions with National Sports Federations, athletes, and coaches.
Last October, the draft of the National Sports Governance Bill was made publicly accessible to gather feedback and suggestions from the general public and stakeholders as part of a pre-legislative consultation initiative.
During the launch of the Khelo Bharat Conclave, Minister Mandaviya stated, "I engaged in numerous consultations with National Sports Federations, athletes, and coaches. We also collaborated with the IOC and various international sports federations. Additionally, we received over 600 public suggestions after making the draft available online for feedback."
"To ensure a comprehensive approach, I conducted an extensive three-hour meeting with sports lawyers to gain insights into their perspectives, as we aim to enhance governance in the country's sports sector.
"There was a query from FIFA. Therefore, I dispatched a special officer to their headquarters for discussions. Following our conversation, the sports bill was finalized, and I am prepared to present it in Parliament during the next session," he added.
The bill aims to foster the development and promotion of sports, implement welfare measures for athletes, uphold ethical practices in sports, and address related matters through effective governance. It will also establish institutional capacity and standards for the governance of sports federations, aligning with fundamental universal principles of good governance, ethics, and fair play as outlined in the Olympic Charter, Paralympic Charter, and international best practices.
Moreover, the bill proposes to introduce mechanisms for resolving sports grievances and disputes in a unified, fair, and effective manner.
