The inauguration saw the presence of Patparganj MLA Ravi Negi, local municipal councillors, and various community leaders.
In an interview with IANS, Mishra noted that the number of Kanwar camps in Delhi has skyrocketed this year. “Last year, we established 170 Kanwar camps in the capital. This year, we are thrilled to report that we have more than doubled that number, with a total of 374 camps being set up across the city to provide all essential amenities for the devotees,” he stated.
Emphasizing the government's commitment, Mishra stated, “An extra fund of Rs 1 lakh per camp will be allocated by the Delhi government to enhance infrastructure and elevate services for the Kanwariyas.”
Patparganj MLA Ravi Negi expressed his deep satisfaction regarding the annual Kanwar Yatra, mentioning to IANS, “After 27 years, a government aligned with Sanatan Dharma has come into power. The camps are adorned in saffron, symbolizing the essence of our faith.” He added, “These Kanwariyas are the torchbearers of Sanatan Dharma. We warmly welcome them at these saffron-themed camps.”
The Kanwar Yatra represents a significant annual pilgrimage for devotees of Lord Shiva, attracting thousands of Kanwariyas from Delhi and surrounding states, who walk barefoot to collect holy water from the Ganges to offer at Shiva temples.
The Delhi government’s thorough preparations signal a focus on both religious devotion and public safety, especially as the Yatra gains traction.
This year, the excitement around the Kanwar Yatra is palpable in Delhi, with expectations that the city is poised to welcome the Yatra with the grandeur reminiscent of a Kumbh Mela.
Key routes and entry points throughout the city are being specially decorated to honor the pilgrims.
