Nawada knife attack: Two youths killed, two hurt in Bihar village clash
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Two young men were stabbed to death and two others critically injured on Monday, 25 May, after a violent confrontation erupted around 2.30 pm in Chhoti Pali village under the jurisdiction of Narhat Police Station in Nawada district, Bihar. The attack, rooted in an old dispute, has triggered fear and tension across the village.
The Victims
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kashif, 22, son of Mohammad Arif, and Mohammad Ahmed, 22, son of Mohammad Imtiaz, according to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Narhat Police Station. A third family member, Mohammad Atif, sustained serious stab wounds, reportedly while attempting to shield the two victims. From the opposing side, Najjan Parveen, daughter of Mohammad Fahim Parveen, was also injured in the clash.
What the Police Said
The SHO confirmed that officers reached the scene shortly after the incident and arranged immediate medical assistance. 'We reached the spot soon after the incident and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Due to the severity of their condition, they were later referred to Nawada Sadar Hospital and subsequently to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment,' the officer said. Authorities have confirmed one arrest so far and said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
Two Conflicting Accounts
A cousin of the deceased, Mohammad Danish, alleged that the family had been receiving threats from the rival faction for an extended period. According to Danish, barely an hour before the killings, members of the opposing group intercepted them on the road and openly threatened to kill them. He claimed a group of five to six armed men then launched a sudden knife attack, killing Kashif and Ahmed on the spot and stabbing Atif when he intervened.
Danish alleged the violence was retaliatory — stemming from an incident roughly six months ago in which the accused had allegedly harassed his cousin publicly. The family had filed a formal police complaint at the time, leading to the arrest and imprisonment of the prime accused. He alleged the double murder was carried out as revenge for that police action.
The accused side, however, offered a different account. Firoza Khatoon claimed the dispute was rooted in a long-standing land conflict among relatives, and alleged that a third party had been stoking hostility between the two sides — previously resulting in clashes and arrests. She maintained that the opposing faction initiated Monday's violence.
Investigation Underway
Police are currently recording statements from both parties and investigating the matter from multiple angles to establish the precise sequence of events. This comes amid broader concerns about localised revenge cycles in rural Bihar, where land and honour disputes have historically escalated to fatal violence. The incident has created a palpable atmosphere of fear in Chhoti Pali, with authorities maintaining a presence in the area. Further arrests are expected as the probe advances.
