Patna, Nov 27 (NationPress) A 16-year-old boy tragically passed away while in the custody of police at a station located in Nawada district of Bihar on Thursday, sparking significant unrest in the region.
The unfortunate event occurred at the Kashichak police station, where Sunny Kumar, a minor from Bauri village and son of Ashok Pandit, was discovered dead within the police station's lock-up.
In response to the news, residents gathered at Bauri Hospital, where the body was taken for an autopsy, and initiated a strong protest. They seized two police vehicles and raised a substantial outcry, alleging that Sunny's death resulted from police brutality during custody.
The victim's family asserted that Sunny was detained due to his alleged relationship with the sister of a police constable, which they claim led to his arrest. They further accused police officials of torturing their son, leading to his untimely demise. They are demanding a complete investigation and stringent actions against the involved police personnel.
According to DSP Rakesh Kumar Bhaskar, the minor was apprehended on Wednesday evening concerning a love affair case and was taken to the police station. The next day, the police were informed that he had lost consciousness inside the lock-up. Upon inspection, he was found dead.
“All allegations made by the family will undergo a fair investigation, and necessary actions will follow. CCTV footage from the police station will be meticulously reviewed, and legal proceedings will commence based on the outcomes,” Bhaskar stated.
He assured that strict measures would be taken against anyone found culpable.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family is in mourning and continues to seek justice.
“We have dispatched the body for a post-mortem and are awaiting the report, which will elucidate the actual cause of death. We are also questioning the police personnel present at the station. The Station House Officer has been instructed to submit a report to the district police,” Bhaskar announced.
