Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) In a bid to enhance cyber security awareness among the younger generation, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has partnered with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to unveil a new capacity-building initiative, as reported on Monday.
The initiative, structured in two phases, is designed to cultivate a group of trained NCC Cyber Cadets. These cadets will play a vital role in disseminating cyber awareness, endorsing safe digital practices, and supporting cyber security efforts at the community level, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between NCC and NIELIT, witnessed by NCC Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Virendra Vats and NIELIT DG Madan Mohan Tripathi.
The cyber security initiative will unfold in two distinct stages.
The first stage is termed the 'Cyber Security Awareness Programme', which constitutes a 15-hour online training module aimed at equipping participants with essential knowledge of digital literacy, safe internet habits, cyber hygiene, and an understanding of cyber threats.
This stage is accessible to all registered NCC cadets nationwide and will be facilitated through the NIELIT Digital University platform, as stated in the announcement.
The second stage, known as the 'Cyber Defender Programme', will provide an in-depth 60-hour offline training session for cadets selected through a merit-based evaluation process.
This phase will emphasize practical training, real-world simulations, and hands-on experience with cyber security tools and techniques, empowering cadets to recognize and effectively respond to cyber threats, as noted in the statement.
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) serves as the youth wing for the armed forces.
Cadets receive fundamental military training involving small arms and drill.
Upon completion of their training, officers and cadets are not obligated to undertake active military service.
According to official data, in 2025, there were about 15.58 lakh cadets enrolled in the NCC, with 6.33 lakh, representing 40.68 percent, being girls.
