NCP's 'Jan Seva Saptah' from July 22 to mark late Ajit Pawar's birth anniversary
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will observe a statewide 'Jan Seva Saptah' (Public Service Week) from 22 July to 26 July to commemorate the birth anniversary of the party's former national president and erstwhile Deputy Chief Minister, the late Ajit Pawar. The announcement was made by NCP State President and Member of Parliament Sunil Tatkare on Monday, 6 July, in Mumbai.
What the Week-Long Campaign Covers
The five-day initiative will span Maharashtra, structured around thematic public welfare drives. Tatkare described the late leader as 'a symbol of relentless hard work, decisive leadership and an unwavering commitment to the public,' crediting him with sustained work for farmers, labourers, women, youth and students across agriculture, finance, healthcare and infrastructure.
Responsibility for executing the campaign has been assigned to respective Guardian Ministers and Liaison Ministers, who have been directed to immediately convene planning meetings with district presidents, frontal cells and local party office-bearers to ensure grassroots-level implementation.
Environment and Tree Plantation Drive
Reflecting the late leader's focus on environmental conservation, a large-scale tree plantation drive will be launched under the theme 'Green Maharashtra, Trees My Shadow, Trees My Mother; Ajit Pawar's Vision, Green Creation' — covering villages, towns and educational institutions across the state.
In collaboration with the Sahyadri Devrai Foundation, led by veteran actor Sayaji Shinde, the party will launch the 'Devgiri to Devrai' tree conservation project. All current and former Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) and members of the State Legislature (Assembly and Council) have been directed to establish at least one 'Devrai' (sacred grove) in their respective constituencies.
Health Camps and Women's Empowerment
To strengthen public health outreach, the party will organise statewide blood donation camps and free diagnostic drives in rural and urban areas, covering diabetes testing, blood pressure monitoring and eye check-ups. Cancer detection and counselling camps — targeting breast, cervical and oral cancers — and osteoporosis detection camps for women and senior citizens will also be held.
The NCP's women's wing will host state-level conventions focused on financial and social independence, encompassing skill development training, micro-loan facilitation and leadership guidance for women in local self-government bodies. The party will also distribute the 'Ajit Pawar Women Empowerment Award' and special honours for women in agriculture.
Agriculture, Youth and Minority Welfare
Inspired by the late leader's advocacy for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in farming, the party will organise AI-based agricultural workshops, exhibitions and crop-pattern counselling sessions. Outstanding progressive farmers will be recognised with the 'Ajit Dada Krishi Sanman Award'.
'Youth Resolution Camps' (Yuva Sankalp Shibirs) will be held across major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nashik, training youth workers in leadership, campaign strategies and voter communication ahead of upcoming local body elections. Former and current athletes of distinction will also be honoured.
Dedicated 'Seva Sankalp Shibirs' will be organised across the state to ensure effective delivery of welfare schemes initiated by the late leader for minority communities. Cleanliness drives are also planned at historical forts, iconic leaders' memorials and major public transit hubs including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus stations, alongside service camps during the ongoing Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage.
With the campaign spanning health, environment, agriculture, youth and minority welfare, the NCP is positioning the week as both a tribute to its former president and a grassroots mobilisation exercise ahead of local body polls.
