In New Delhi on December 22, the National Commission for Women (NCW) unveiled the 'SHAKTI Scholars: NCW's Young Research Fellowship', calling for applications from aspiring students and researchers aiming to conduct policy-focused studies on women's issues throughout India.
The fellowship aims to foster multidisciplinary research on various topics, including women's safety and dignity, gender-based violence, legal rights and access to justice, as well as cyber safety.
Furthermore, it will encourage research on the execution of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) framework, women's leadership, political engagement, health and nutrition, education, skill enhancement, economic empowerment, labor force participation, socio-cultural practices, and the balance between work and personal life.
Eligibility for the fellowship extends to Indian citizens aged between 21 and 30 years who possess at least a graduation degree from an accredited institution.
While announcing the initiative, the NCW stated, "Candidates who are pursuing or have completed post-graduation or advanced research will be prioritized. Independent researchers showcasing their research capabilities may also apply."
Selected applicants will be awarded a research grant of Rs 1 lakh to embark on a six-month research project.
The NCW clarified that the funding will be disbursed in stages, contingent upon the progress of the research during the fellowship.
Applications for the 'SHAKTI Scholars' fellowship can be submitted via email to the NCW until December 31 at 5:30 p.m.
The Commission noted that an Expert Committee will evaluate the applications, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview as part of the selection process.
Last month, the NCW also introduced a new 24×7 short-code helpline, 14490, to provide timely support for women in distress.
They have urged citizens, community organizations, and educational institutions to widely share the new helpline number to raise awareness about the available support services for women at any hour.
