Mumbai, Oct 3 (NationPress) Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, whose latest film ‘Homebound’ has received substantial critical acclaim, has addressed the rumors regarding the compensation given to the family that inspired the film, stating it was only INR 10,000.
On Friday, Ghaywan took to his X account, formerly known as Twitter, to clarify in a detailed post that while he did indeed provide INR 10,000 to the family, it was merely a token of gratitude during the initial research phase of the film.
He emphasized that he and the film's producers have shown the family profound respect and provided them with substantial support.
Ghaywan wrote, “I’ve seen concerns about reports stating that the family whose lives inspired ‘Homebound’ received a mere INR 10,000, which is indeed a shamefully low sum. I wish to clarify that this amount was a small token, given to Ram Charan ji (Amrit’s father) many years ago as a farewell gesture during my initial research. Please do not interpret this as the total compensation provided. Neither I nor the producers would ever diminish such a deeply personal narrative to such a trivial amount. The family’s contributions are of immense value and significance to me.”
He continued, “We have respected their trust and stories with genuine honor and substantial support. They have expressed their joy about this with me, and I prefer not to disclose the actual figures because it would undermine the bond I share with Amrit and Saiyub, the true heroes of ‘Homebound’.”
‘Homebound’ is a touching Indian drama that explores the profound friendship between two childhood companions, Shoaib, a Muslim, and Chandan, a Dalit, as they confront systemic injustices and societal biases in their quest for dignity and meaningful employment.
Set against the backdrop of India’s deeply rooted social divisions, the film delves into themes of identity, caste, and faith through a moving male friendship.
