Mumbai, Aug 20 (NationPress) Have you ever wondered why Neeru Bajwa, a leading figure in the Punjab film industry, felt the need to fabricate her background to break into cinema?
In an exclusive chat with IANS, the 'Jatt & Juliet' star disclosed that there was a prevalent stereotype about individuals from Canada, prompting her to claim she was from Chandigarh.
Bajwa explained, "Previously, there was a notion that if you were from Canada, your grasp of the local language might be lacking - 'You're not Indian enough or Punjabi enough'. Thus, I misrepresented my origins as being from Chandigarh and adopted an Indian accent since I was tired of the stereotype. I couldn't find a way to articulate my true story as any amount of persuasion seemed futile."
On the professional front, Bajwa recently portrayed a strong character in 'Tehran' alongside John Abraham.
Discussing her role, she mentioned that she studied spy films to understand her character's body language.
"I didn’t engage in a formal preparation regimen. I watched spy films to learn the body language, physical movements, and demeanor typical of such roles," she shared.
This observational technique enabled her to adjust authentically on set, enhancing her performance's realism.
She added that her character in 'Tehran' developed in an organic manner.
Praising the set environment and the positivity of co-star John Abraham, Bajwa remarked, “He was wonderfully supportive and ensured everyone felt at ease on set, which greatly improved our performances.”
When asked why she accepted the project, Bajwa replied: “What attracted me to this narrative was the strength and clarity of my character. She’s a person of integrity, steadfast in her beliefs, even amidst chaos. It’s a significant moment for me to embody a woman who is principled and unafraid to advocate for her values in a story as compelling and expansive as this.”
