Patna, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has escalated its investigation into the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant at the Shambhu Girls' Hostel in Patna. This comes amidst increasing scrutiny regarding the actions of the local police and the Bihar government in this case.
On the directive of State Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar established the SIT, which is being led by Patna Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jitendra Rana.
On Saturday, IGP Rana personally inspected the crime scene at Shambhu Girls' Hostel, accompanied by all SIT members.
He instructed the investigating team to ensure that strict actions would be taken against anyone found culpable.
The tragic incident was reported when a student from Jehanabad district, who was studying for the NEET medical entrance exam, was discovered unconscious in her room at the hostel. She was promptly taken to the hospital but tragically passed away during treatment on January 11.
The victim's family has claimed that she was a victim of sexual assault. However, senior officers from Patna police, including the Assistant Superintendent of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police, initially hesitated to acknowledge these allegations, citing a lack of evidence pending the post-mortem report.
Once the post-mortem findings were released, they indicated that sexual assault could not be ruled out, raising significant doubts regarding the initial police response.
In light of these findings, DGP Vinay Kumar mandated the formation of a SIT, led by IGP Jitendra Rana, to ensure an exhaustive and unbiased investigation.
The SIT includes Patna Superintendent of Police (East) Parichay Kumar, alongside a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police, a woman Inspector, a male Inspector, a Sub-Inspector, an Assistant Sub-Inspector, and several Constables.
