Beirut, Jan 14 (NationPress) Lebanon's newly-appointed Prime Minister Nawaf Salam pledged on Tuesday to usher in a new era for the nation, as reported by local TV channel Al Jadeed.
"The moment has arrived to commence a new chapter grounded in justice, security, progress, and opportunities so that Lebanon transforms into a nation of freedom and equal citizenship," Salam expressed during his inaugural remarks as Prime Minister at Baabda Palace in the capital Beirut.
The Prime Minister-designate underscored the urgent requirement for reconstruction efforts following the nearly 14-month lethal conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which wreaked havoc on civilian residences and infrastructure.
"A significant portion of our populace continues to face the destruction of their homes and institutions, and we must rebuild the towns in the Bekaa region, the south, and the capital Beirut. Reconstruction is a commitment," he emphasized.
Salam also committed to executing UN Resolution 1701. "We must strive diligently to fully enforce Resolution 1701 and compel the adversary's complete withdrawal from the last inch of our territories," he stated.
He called for reinforcing the authority of the state across all regions and urged the government to undertake a comprehensive strategy to establish a thriving economy and create employment opportunities for future generations, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Championing the adoption of extensive administrative decentralization, Salam highlighted the necessity to reform Lebanon's patronage-driven administration. Concurrently, he called for delivering justice for the victims of the 2020 Beirut port explosions.
"I stand for inclusion, not exclusion; for unity, not marginalization," Salam proclaimed, urging all factions to collaboratively initiate reforms.
Just a day prior, Salam was appointed as Lebanon's new Prime Minister and given the responsibility of forming a new government.
