New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) Gurumurthy Palani, Anurag Bhatnagar, and Gurdeep Klair have been voted into the prestigious Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Representing France, Hong Kong, and Canada respectively, the trio secured their positions against incumbents Sumod Damodar from Botswana and Sankar Renganathan of Sierra Leone. Their election was officially announced through their respective boards’ social media channels.
Other candidates in the elections included Tim Cutler from Vanuatu, Stella Siale from Samoa, and Sarah Gomersall from Jersey. The voting process engaged 40 associate members alongside five regional representatives from the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe, and East Asia-Pacific.
The CEC stands as one of the ICC’s most influential bodies, consisting of representatives from all Full Member nations and elected Associate representatives. It plays a vital role in shaping policies and governance concerning the promotion and organization of international cricket.
The positions held by Associate Members are crucial as they bridge the gap between the ICC’s top board and member nations outside of it. According to ICC regulations, candidates for the CEC elections must be representatives of an Associate Member or hold current/past ICC director status.
Palani, Bhatnagar, and Klair will serve for a term of two years and will also join the Associate Member Committee, which focuses on overseeing cricket governance at the Associate level.
The elections for these significant Associate Member spots on the CEC marked the beginning of the ICC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore, running from July 17 to 20.
This meeting is particularly notable as it is the inaugural major ICC AGM under the leadership of Jay Shah as chairman and the newly appointed CEO Sanjog Gupta.
