Is Another Food and Drug Testing Lab Rising in MP?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Indore, Oct 27 (NationPress) In a proactive move against food adulteration, a new food and drug testing laboratory has been inaugurated in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This state-of-the-art facility is outfitted with cutting-edge technology, enabling it to analyze 20,000 samples daily. During the opening ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav issued a strong warning to those involved in food and drug adulteration, asserting, “Adulterers will not be spared. Stringent measures will be enforced against anyone jeopardizing the health of our citizens,” he proclaimed in front of the newly built five-story establishment, which occupies 3,700 square feet and was constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 8 crore.
The lab's capacity to test 20,000 samples each year marks a substantial increase compared to the only existing facility in Bhopal, which can handle just 6,000 samples annually. Additionally, for the first time, mobile testing units have been introduced in Indore. These vans are set to traverse markets, rural locales, and highways, collecting samples and providing instant results, thereby ensuring a quick response to potential contamination.
Dr. Yadav emphasized the government’s commitment to public health, stating that under his leadership, the network of food and drug testing labs is rapidly expanding. Following Bhopal and Indore, a new laboratory will be established in Jabalpur within three months, with plans for additional facilities in Gwalior and Ujjain.
The Ujjain laboratory is set to meet national standards in preparation for the grand Simhastha 2028, which is anticipated to attract over 50 lakh pilgrims.
The Chief Minister also revealed that mobile microbiological testing units will soon be deployed statewide to swiftly identify pathogens in milk, water, and street food. Ultimately, every district will have its own testing center, accompanied by public awareness campaigns and certification services in alignment with FSSAI guidelines.
He further outlined 18 new initiatives to bolster the food processing sector, including complete stamp-duty waivers for land aimed at cold-chain infrastructure, zero-interest loans for micro food parks, and a dedicated venture fund for women-led farmer-producer organizations. Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya asserted that a new chapter in the state's advancement is unfolding.
