Newcastle, Feb 25 (NationPress) Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe stated that his team must deliver a nearly flawless performance to overcome the Premier League frontrunners, Liverpool, this Thursday (IST).

It's a significant challenge for the Magpies, as Arne Slot's Reds hold an impressive 11-point lead at the top and have an excellent home record against Newcastle. The English head coach also described the atmosphere at Anfield Stadium as unique.

"We must aim for a near-perfect game from our side. Learning from our recent match against Manchester City would serve as a solid foundation, as we failed to implement the aggressive game plan we intended and did not attack effectively enough.

"We need to draw lessons from that experience at Anfield, which is a wonderful place for football but can be daunting if we are not fully prepared. We must recognize this and ensure we perform well. Psychologically, this is crucial. It’s an emotionally charged stadium; we must start strong and pose a threat throughout the match," Howe remarked during a press conference.

The Magpies are heading to Anfield aiming for their first victory there since a League Cup win in November 1995, when Steve Watson's goal secured a victory for United on Merseyside.

After suffering a 0-4 loss to Manchester City last week, Newcastle bounced back in the league with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest. Howe’s squad currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League standings, tied with Manchester City at 44 points.

With Nottingham Forest just three points ahead in third place, any points gained against Liverpool will be crucial.

"This has been evident all season to some extent. We have had games where we have felt frustrated. However, when you consider the statistic of 13 wins out of 16, that does not indicate an inconsistent team. I would definitely welcome that in the next 16 matches. I strive to be candid and recognize that we have experienced inconsistencies, and Sunday (the 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest) illustrated that,” Howe added.
