Newcastle, April 11 (NationPress) Assistant manager Jason Tindall is optimistic that Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe will be ready for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester United this Sunday, despite the Magpies' manager experiencing health issues this week.
Newcastle will welcome Ruben Amorim's squad to St. James' Park, looking to achieve a league double over the Red Devils for the first time since the 1930/31 season and secure a fourth consecutive victory in the Premier League.
Since Eddie Howe was unable to attend Friday's pre-match media session due to his illness, Tindall stepped in to handle the media obligations and expressed hope that the 47-year-old will be present on the sidelines for the vital match.
"He has been unwell for the past couple of days, but we have stayed in close contact. We talk three or four times daily, so it's not disrupted our preparations. We still have a few days, and I am confident he will be ready for the weekend," stated Tindall.
"It’s rare for him to miss work, and it feels different without him at the training ground, but it’s only been a short time," Tindall added.
In other news, the Premier League is set to gain an additional spot in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, following Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final.
England is now assured a top-two position in UEFA's club coefficient rankings, granting a "European Performance Spot" (EPS). This means that in addition to the top four teams in the Premier League, the fifth-placed club in 2024/25 will also secure a spot in the Champions League next season, which is encouraging for Newcastle, currently holding that position with eight matches still to play.
Tindall emphasized that the squad is in a favorable situation at this point in the season, planning to take it one match at a time until the conclusion of the competition.
"We are in a position we aimed for with eight games left. Many teams are competing for those spots. We have a busy week ahead, but the main focus is the Manchester United match and ensuring we prepare adequately for it. A strong performance and a positive result will bring us closer to our goals," Tindall concluded.
