NHAI Enhances Highway Patrol System with Innovative Rajmarg Saathi Vehicles

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) In a bid to boost road safety and enhance highway patrol capabilities, the NHAI is preparing to introduce upgraded and forward-thinking Incident Management Services. This initiative will feature the new Route Patrolling Vehicles (RPVs) dubbed ‘Rajmarg Saathi’, which are built to efficiently carry essential equipment for emergency situations.
According to an official announcement made on Friday, these vehicles will come equipped with a dashboard camera that incorporates AI video analytics to gather vital data.
The new RPVs will have updated specifications detailing their design, functions, technological components, and required manpower.
These RPVs will be tasked with inspecting stretches of National Highways to monitor and respond effectively to emergencies.
In the current RPVs, the rear compartment is open for storing instruments and equipment, which can hinder prompt action during emergencies due to disorganization.
To address this issue, the open rear space has been transformed into a closed cabinet featuring designated compartments for various tools and equipment.
Shelves have been incorporated to allow for quick and easy access to necessary gear during emergencies, marking a significant upgrade from previous models.
Another advanced feature of the new RPVs includes a dashboard camera with AI video analytics capable of detecting and documenting cracks, potholes, and other important elements such as vehicles, pedestrians, road signs, and infrastructure assets.
NHAI will collect data and video footage on road conditions weekly, integrating this road distress data into the NHAI One application for improved road maintenance.
The guidelines for the ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ RPVs provide comprehensive specifications regarding the vehicle's usage, equipment, and personnel. To maintain vehicle fitness, an RPV will be replaced once it surpasses 300,000 km or has been in operation for three years.
Additionally, significant attention has been given to the branding and external design of the RPVs to enhance their visibility as Highway Patrol Services on National Highways.
With advanced communication and safety tools, these vehicles are expected to reduce traffic disruptions, enhance road safety, and improve the overall experience for road users on National Highways, according to the statement.
To further establish a professional appearance, the uniforms of the patrol vehicle personnel have been redesigned, featuring a striking blue color along with jackets that have reflective stripes and authority logos for easy identification.
