Chennai, May 27 (NationPress) Following three days of relentless rainfall in the Nilgiris, reports indicate that 17 houses have sustained damage while 275 residents have been moved to temporary relief shelters, as stated by Nilgiris Lok Sabha MP A. Raja.
On Tuesday, Raja, alongside Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Saminathan and Coonoor MLA K. Ramachandran, conducted an inspection of landslide-prone areas in Ithalar and Bembatty.
The team visited temporary shelters established for those affected by the rains, distributing blankets and other vital relief supplies to the displaced families.
Addressing the media, Raja assured that all government departments are actively working to ensure the safety of residents and minimize further damage.
“Efforts are underway to restore water and power supply throughout the Nilgiris, with immediate relief and infrastructure restoration being the administration's top priority,” he stated.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the district.
Moreover, nine additional teams are stationed in Mettupalayam and Tiruppur, ready to assist should the situation escalate.
