Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) Nitin Nabin, born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, has risen as one of the youngest and most vibrant figures in Indian politics.
On Tuesday, he was elected unanimously as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party at the age of 45, taking over from Jagat Prakash Nadda.
This appointment signifies the party's commitment to generational change, organizational discipline, and a strong grassroots connection. With thirty-seven nominations, including endorsements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and former Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the transition was seamless and well-received within the BJP.
Nitin Nabin hails from a political family; he is the son of the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a respected four-time MLA from Patna West and a senior BJP leader in Bihar. His mother was the late Meera Sinha. He is part of the Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha community.
He completed his education at St Michael’s High School in Patna, finishing Class 10 under CBSE in 1996, followed by his intermediate studies at CSKM Public School in New Delhi in 1998.
Nitin Nabin entered electoral politics early, winning a by-election to the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Patna West in 2006 after his father's passing.
After delimitation, he moved to the Bankipur constituency and has represented it without interruption since 2010, achieving victories in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. This makes him a five-time MLA with consistently strong margins.
In successive NDA administrations in Bihar, he managed key cabinet roles, including Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing, and Law and Justice. His tenure focused on infrastructure enhancements, urban renewal, and welfare initiatives for journalists, ASHA workers, and others.
Simultaneously with his legislative career, Nitin Nabin cultivated a strong reputation within the party organization.
He held the position of the state president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Bihar and later served as its national general secretary. He was assigned critical roles in Sikkim and Chhattisgarh, notably leading the party’s campaign in the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections. In December 2025, he was appointed as the national working president, a role that positioned him directly for the top organizational post.
Recognized for his quiet determination, ideological clarity, administrative efficiency, and unwavering loyalty to the party, Nitin Nabin now leads the BJP.
As Assembly elections approach in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, along with the upcoming 2029 Lok Sabha battle, his presidency is anticipated to enhance booth-level operations, broaden the party’s reach, and align organizational efforts closely with the government’s development agenda under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance.
