New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially commenced the election process for its next national president. Senior party leaders filed nomination papers for Nitin Nabin, the 45-year-old national working president, at the party headquarters today.

BJP President J.P. Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh submitted the initial batch of nomination papers to Returning Officer K. Laxman, accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and other prominent figures such as Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav, and Kiren Rijiju.

Subsequent nominations were presented by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and leaders from numerous states, reflecting extensive support for Nabin.

Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana), and Pramod Sawant (Goa), along with representatives from states such as Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, and Jharkhand, were also present.

Having been appointed as national working president on December 14, 2025, Nabin is set to become the BJP's 12th national president — potentially its youngest — with strong backing from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Shah, and other senior party leaders.

With no opposing candidates, he is anticipated to be elected unopposed by the electoral college, which includes members from national and state councils.

According to party regulations, a candidate must receive joint proposals from at least 20 electoral college members from a single state and must have a minimum of 15 years of party membership.

Nominations can be withdrawn between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. today, after which the Returning Officer is expected to issue a statement at 6:30 p.m.

If the election remains uncontested, the new president will be formally announced on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary praised this development as a proud moment for the state and a historic achievement for the party.

A five-time MLA from Bihar, Nabin is well-known for his organizational skills, having managed states like Chhattisgarh and been instrumental in forming alliances.

Since becoming the working president, he has focused on preparations for upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

His promotion is viewed as a step towards infusing youthful energy into the BJP's leadership while maintaining continuity with its ideological and organizational roots.
