New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Monday that Nitin Nabin will be the sole candidate for the position of National President. This decision comes after the nomination and review process concluded without any other candidates, setting the stage for his unopposed election as the party's 12th national leader.

An official statement released late Monday by National Returning Officer K. Laxman confirmed that Nabin was the only name remaining in the contest after the nomination phase and the withdrawal period ended.

The Returning Officer noted that 37 sets of nomination papers supporting Nabin were submitted between 2 and 4 p.m., all of which were validated during the scrutiny process.

No withdrawals were reported, and no additional candidates filed nominations.

The election process gained traction following the election of 30 out of 36 state presidents of the BJP, surpassing the required threshold of 50 percent as per the party's constitution.

A notification announcing the event schedule was released on January 16, 2026, along with the publication of the electoral roll.

Nominations were opened and closed on Monday, with scrutiny completed shortly thereafter.

Nabin, who is 45 years old and was appointed as National Working President on December 14, 2025, has garnered significant support from the BJP's senior leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and outgoing party President J.P. Nadda.

Senior leaders, Chief Ministers, and representatives from various states submitted nomination papers in favor of Nabin earlier on Monday, indicating a strong organizational consensus.

As the only candidate, Nabin is poised to be officially elected by the electoral college, which includes members of the BJP's national council and state councils.

This process adheres to BJP regulations requiring a candidate to be proposed by at least 20 electoral college members from a state and to have a minimum of 15 years of party membership.

With no competition, the BJP is expected to announce Nabin's elevation to the position of National President on Tuesday.

Nabin's ascent is viewed as a strategic initiative to inject youthful leadership into the party while maintaining continuity.

Since taking on the role of BJP Working President, Nabin has been actively engaged in preparation for upcoming Assembly elections in states such as Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

A five-time BJP MLA from Bihar with a wealth of organizational experience, Nabin's appointment is celebrated in his home state as an inspiring story of an ordinary worker rising to a prominent position within the party.

Point of View

I observe Nitin Nabin's ascension as a strategic evolution for the BJP. His election as National President without opposition showcases the party's internal unity and the eagerness to embrace younger leadership while retaining the core values that have shaped the BJP's identity.
