Kolkata, Feb 27 (NationPress) In a significant development, the North 24 Parganas district has reported the highest number of 'under adjudication' cases in West Bengal, just ahead of the Election Commission of India's (ECI) release of the final voters' list this Saturday.

The ECI has previously stated that the final voters' list will categorize electors into three distinct groups: 'approved', 'under adjudication', and 'deleted'. The 'under adjudication' category includes voters marked under the 'logical discrepancy' section, where their identity documents are awaiting examination by judicial officers assigned for this task.

Supplementary lists will be updated periodically for these 'under adjudication' voters based on the ongoing judicial review following the final voters' list publication.

As of Friday afternoon, sources within the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office in West Bengal reported that North 24 Parganas has 5.90 lakh 'under adjudication' cases, making it the district with the highest count in the state.

Following closely is South 24 Parganas, another district neighboring Kolkata and bordering Bangladesh, which has seen 5.20 lakh cases.

West Midnapore ranks third with one lakh 'under adjudication' cases, while East Midnapore follows in fourth with 80,000 cases.

The districts of Kolkata — Kolkata Dakshin and Kolkata Uttar — occupy the fifth and sixth positions, with 78,000 and 60,000 'under adjudication' cases, respectively.

The overall tally of 'under adjudication' cases across West Bengal has surpassed 60 lakh as of Friday evening.

To promote transparency, the ECI has opted to provide soft copies of the final list to registered political parties within the state. Voters will also have multiple avenues to verify their names on the final roll.

Individuals can check their status by visiting the official website of the Election Commission of India at eci.gov.in, where they can enter their name and EPIC number for verification.

Alternatively, they can access the website of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in.

Voters may also refer to the sites of their respective District Electoral Officers (DEOs) for name verification.

For offline verification, the ECI has made arrangements for copies of the final voters' list to be distributed to booth-level officers (BLOs), allowing voters to reach out to their BLOs for assistance.

Additionally, hard copies of the final list will be made available at polling booths throughout various regions, enabling voters to check their names in person.
