Aizawl, Sep 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Saturday that the Northeast region serves as a vital growth engine for India, having made significant strides over the past 11 years.
During the inauguration of the ambitious 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project, he flagged off three new train routes linking Aizawl with Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, while also laying the foundation stone and inaugurating various development initiatives valued at over Rs 9,000 crore. The Prime Minister noted that the Northeast, once considered a frontier state, has evolved into a front runner.
He highlighted that the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project would enhance connectivity between Mizoram and other Northeastern states with the Bay of Bengal.
This project is a collaborative effort between India and Myanmar aimed at establishing a multi-modal transport corridor that connects India’s eastern ports to the Northeast through Myanmar, utilizing both waterways and roads to circumvent the Siliguri Corridor.
The Prime Minister remarked: “Once the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project is operational, there will be a significant boost in trade and tourism within the Northeast. These initiatives form an integral part of India’s Act East Policy.”
He critiqued previous political parties for engaging in vote bank politics that adversely impacted the region.
“Our approach, plans, and vision differ. We are committed to ensuring peace and development in this region. Connectivity via rail, road, air, and waterways has seen considerable improvements and will continue to advance,” he emphasized.
On the topic of GST reforms, he mentioned that many taxes have been reduced, easing the burden on ordinary citizens.
During ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s armed forces delivered decisive action against terrorism, showcasing the strength of the nation’s military and Made in India weapons to safeguard the country, he noted.
This visit marks PM Modi's second trip to Mizoram since he took office in 2014. Following his time in Aizawl, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Churachandpur in Manipur and then to the state capital Imphal. In both Churachandpur and Imphal, he will unveil a total of 31 projects worth Rs 8,500 crore for Manipur and address public gatherings in both locations.
