Bhubaneswar, Nov 27 (NationPress) The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly officially began on Thursday following the adoption of a condolence motion for several leaders who have recently passed away.
On the inaugural day of the fifth session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented the motion.
The assembly paid tribute to three-time MLA Hemendra Prasad Mahapatra, who held the Bonai Assembly seat in Sundargarh district during the years 1961, 1967, and 1971, alongside veteran Congress leader Krushna Chandra Mallik, who represented the Jagatsinghpur constituency from 1980 to 1985.
Additionally, homage was extended to Odisha Police Constable Saroj Kumar Pradhan, who tragically lost his life while on duty.
While paying respects to Mahapatra and Mallik, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that both leaders relentlessly advocated for the rights of Dalits and other marginalized communities.
Leaders such as Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik and Congress Legislative Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam supported the condolence motion.
All present leaders expressed their sorrow and requested Speaker Surama Padhy to convey the assembly's condolences to the grieving families of the departed leaders and the police constable.
Speaker Padhy also took part in the discussions regarding the condolence motion, offering her sincere tributes to the deceased members and the former police constable. She assured that the assembly's condolences would be formally communicated to the bereaved families.
